ETERNITY MAGAZIN 1- CIAO MARCO, COULD YOU PLEASE INTRODUCE THE BAND FOR THE READERS WHO DON’T KNOW LACERATER YET. I Michael! Thanx a lot for this interview! Lacerater project was born in 2002 under the name of Lacerated by me and the ex member Stefano. The first two demos were recorded under this first name and they allowed us to get some local fans. The sound was primitive and it was really close to Death Metal, but it changed in the years, thanks to some line up changes and some new influences from grind and hardcore. The line up is now steady with Antonio for the vocal sector, Ziro at the bass, Riccardo at the drums and me and Luca at the guitars. 2- “NESSUN URLO NELL’OMBRA” CAME OUT LAST YEAR HOW HAS THE RESPONSE TO THE MCD BEEN SO FAR? Well it looks like “Nessun Urlo Nell’ Ombra “ had a very good feedback and very good reviews. We are distributed quite well in Brazil, France, Germany, more or less in the whole Europe thanks to different indy distros. We even sent some copies to Japan, India and in States. We have more than a hundred reviews that can testify this. The funny and good thing is that every review sets us in a different musical context, from ol’ school, grind, hardcore and brutal. The Ep was appreciated in it’s owm complex and not only for one or two songs. That should underline the quality of the product. We are very satisfied about it! 3- THE LYRICS OF YOUR FIRST TWO RELEASES"REVENGE OF DARKNESS" AND “DEMO 2004”WERE IN ENGLISH. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO SWITCH FROM ENGLISH LANGUAGE TO YOUR MOTHER TONGUE ITALIAN? The language change came naturally with the line up changes. We changed name from Lacerated to Lacerater and with that we wanted to show our personal skills and try to differ from the other bands. In fact instead of talkin’ about the usual dismemberment gore throat slittin’ cannibal blood sproutin’ dead women rapin’ madness the lyrics are based on some dark episodes that happened in our country. This is why the language switched into Italian, even cause Antonio is a very good writer and has very good knowledge of Italian vocabulary, plus he uses rhymes and metaphores in his lyrics. 4- WHAT ARE THE TOPICS OF YOUR LYRICS? WHAT DOES THE TITLE “NESSUN URLO NELL’OMBRA” MEAN? Nessun Urlo Nell’ Ombra means “ No Howl in The Shade “ or “ No scream in the shadow “ more or less. It express the concept of omerta and silence that is often seen in the gruesome mafia or criminal facts in Italy. O.s.s.a is insipired by the various mass slaughters givin importance to the collective memory. The rotting flesh represents the passing of time and the bones instead defy Chronos and resist to the great hourglass. Nato Morto is more introspective, it’s like a brutal variation of Aspettando Godot by Claudio Lolli ( a great storyteller from Bologna ). It’s about a dying man that tells the story of his life to his son, by doing so he realizes that he waited for an inspiration for all his existence but nothing ever came and that even his last hours are nothing more than waiting, not for life, but for death. W.H 22 stands for Winchester H 22 caliber, it’s a rifle used by Pacciani and company in Florence ( The Florence Monster ). The lyrics are about those dark facts ( which are still an open chapter for Italian Justice ). Last but not least Sangue ( l’ odore del ) is inspired by two movies by Giuseppe Ferrara “ Il Sasso in Bocca “ and “ Placido Rizzotto “ by P.Scimeca. It’s about mafia and the harsh livin’ conditions of the places in which it operates . 5- JUST A SHORT REMARK ABOUT THE COVER ARTWORK OF “NESSUN URLO NELL’OMBRA”. The cover as the title is a metaphor of human soul in it’s crawlin’ in the shadow in silence. The image represents a worm that is being attacked by one of it’s kind. For this cover we wanted an high quality work, so we gave ourself into the skillful hands of Luca Antoniazzi that thanks to that bizarre pink and to the pictures taken by Alex Mercatali created this singular and unusual artwork which we’re very proud of. 6- I HAVE BEEN WONDERING QUITE A WHILE IS, WHAT THE COVER OF “NESSUN URLO NELL’OMBRA” IS SHOWING. ARE THESE ORGANS OR IS IT A CATERPILLAR, A MAGGOT PERHAPS? They are American Worms, they were bought by Alex Mercatali at a market, don’t ask me what kind of market has such things but I am sure they did the thing, I mean, look at them, they are big, pink, angry and crawly! 7- BY THE WAY, TALKING ABOUT THE OPTICAL ASPECT OF LACERATER. WHO IS THE NICE YOUNG LADY WHO IS PRESENTING YOUR CD ON YOUR MYSPACE SIDE? Well, the actual myspace girl is a ex-girlfriend of our drummer and one of our fans that gently offered to be pictured on our site. It’s a good move, often people come to our Myspace to get to know that girl, and unfortunately they find themselves into a brutal fuckin mind numbing machine with five hugly Italian Gorilla Males. 8- OKAY, LET US COME BACK TO THE MUSIC. APART FROM YOUR “NESSUN URLO NELL’OMBRA” MCD. YOU ARE ONE OF THE ARTISTS ON THE “ITALIA VIOLENTA II” SAMPLER. COULD YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE SAMPLER AND THE OTHER BANDS FEATURED ON IT? “ Italia Violenta “ is a project that has the objective of gettin’ some of the best underground bands from Italian extreme scene, puttin’ them altogheter into some compilations and make their music go around country and abroad. It has good feedbacks, it gets new kids to buy it every year. We as LACERATER believe in the power of a compilation to get known by new people. In Italia Violenta Vol.2 there are lots of bands that we know personally. We played togheter with some of them, Hobnailed, Haemophagus , Shroud of a Mask, Nuclear Shadow and the cyber mothafuckin’ crankin’ destroyer machines that are Bleed Someone Dry, they are great dude! Anyway every band of that compilation is very good. 9- CAN THE LISTENERS EXPECT A FULL-LENGTH ALBUM IN THE NEARER FUTURE OR ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A LABEL FIRST? Well we have this two options, we’ll looking a label for the EP and we are preparing new songs for a full lenght that we hope to put out the studios in the first half of 2009. We had some offers from some little labels until now, but they didn’t offer what we’re looking for so we are still on the look out for it. For what concerns the new work, I can say that it will be different from “ Nessun Urlo Nell’ Ombra “ ‘cause we are experimenting a lot and we are working on some new solutions and formulas. We’ll see what happens hehehe! 10-LET US TALK A BIT ABOUT LIVE ACTIVITIES: YOUR “SPAGHETTI TOUR” IS SCHEDULED FOR THIS YEAR, IN SEPTEMBER OCTOBER 2008. AND YOU’RE GOING TO PLAY A COUPLE OF GIGS IN EUROPE. THREE IN GERMANY (MÜCHELN + LEONBERG + ERFURT), PORTUGAL AND FRANCE. BUT NEXT YEAR, IN 2009 YOU TOLD ME YOU ARE PLANNING TO PLAY MORE GIGS. AS YOU ALSO TOLD ME YOU ORGANISE YOUR TOURS TOTALLY BY YOURSELF HOW CAN SUPPORTERS, PROMOTERS, ORGANISERS, CLUB OWNERS ETC. In september we’ll be tourin’ around with this little European travel ( Spaghetti Tour ) in Italiy, France, Portugal and Germany with bands like Holocausto Canibal, Nightshade, Satan Revenge on Mankind and other great bands. In 2009 after the new songs are done we’ll try to get to more distant lands to know new people and make our music hit and break new ears. The lives we did until now were totally organized by ourselves with a large spending of resources, money and time, but this allowed us to go around and that’s very important and satisfing for us. We believe into auto organization and on the reciprocal underground support. That’s cause the owners of the places we play at are often greedy and care more about their own good or profit and sometimes they really give musicians a hard time. NATRON They fuckin’ rule man! We had the opportunity to invite them at a festival that we organized and to play with them. They are great musicians, they have a great concept of extreme music incorporating experimental influences from Voivod or other progressive bands into their sound! You should see them live man, they don’t fuckin’ miss a hit or a note! They great!!! VOMIT THE SOUL I don’t know them personally but I like what they do, they do a genre that in Italy is comin’ out just now and they are very good at it! NEFAS We played with their ex drummer for a while. I think they had their time to become something big, but things didn’t go as they had to. It’s not my genre, but they are a great presence in Italian Underground! HOUR OF PENANCE Well I think they are one of the biggest extreme bands nowadays, they are going to tour abroad in England and other places in Europe, personally I liked their last album very much, it’s violent and uncompromising, the drummer is a goddamn fuckin machine and the production is great. They are doing great and they deserve respect. LACERATER I think they are moving in the right direction, they are experimenting new sounds and if they work hard they can become a big reality in extreme music. CRIPPLE BASTARDS Our drummer is a fan of them, but I never really liked them even if I saw them live different times. “ Misantropo a Senso Unico “ is a great work, that CD kicks some serious Silverback ape’s asses but I really can’ t judge their orher works cause I never heard anything else. I really appreciate that they sing in Italian, there was a time in which they almost went out the underground to become something bigger but then they stopped and came back into the little scene, but that’s not a bad thing, maybe sometimes is better this way. 12- THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE INTERVIEW, GOOD LUCK AND HOPEFULLY I SEE YOU ON TOUR 2009.
